You will use the Adjustable Gauge for most of your cutting. It eliminates  much of the measuring needed when cutting fabric pieces. The Adjustable Gauge allows you to quickly cut identical strips and squares no matter what the  size.

Slide the Adjustable Gauge to align the diamond-shaped mark at the desired measurement.

Setting the Adjustable Gauge for 45° cuts.

Move the Cutting Guide to the left 45° position. Loosen  the knob and reposition the Adjustable Gauge in the 45° slot.

The adjustable guide can be used for cutting odd dimension strips, squares, and rectangles. The guide may be used when the Cutting Guide is placed at the 45° position for triangles and for cutting bias strips for  half-square triangles.
